Hummer EV To Feature Tire Pressure Sensor Software To Air Down Tires

The new 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup truck will feature a ton of features to make it ridiculously capable off-road. And now, we’re learning that the new all-electric Hummer supertruck will feature special tire pressure sensor software to make it easier to air down when venturing into the rough stuff.

According to a recent report from the Detroit Free Press, the new GMC Hummer EV will actually notify the driver when they’ve reached the desired tire pressure by honking the horn. The process starts with the driver simply entering the desired tire pressure into the infotainment system, then manually releasing the tire pressure by pressing the valve stem outside the vehicle. The Hummer EV’s onboard electronics monitor each tire’s pressure, and will honk as soon as the desired pressure is reached.

The revelation comes from Mike Colville, senior manager of complex feature integration at Hummer’s parent company, General Motors. Colville oversaw development of many of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV’s various features, including the unique tire pressure software described above.

“That idea came from my racing days with me always losing my dang tire pressure gauge,” Colville said. “So we’ve got it built into the car.”

With a long career as an off-road enthusiast, Colville’s experience provided the insight needed to ensure the 2022 GMC Hummer EV delights when venturing off-road. Indeed, for anyone who has misplaced their tire pressure gauge while airing down their tires, the new tire pressure sensor software will make a whole lot of sense.

But that’s not all – the 2022 GMC Hummer EV has a whole lot more up its sleeve when it comes to off-roading, such as Crab Walk mode, which will engage the four-wheel steering system to help enable the electric pickup to move diagonally. Paired with adaptive air suspension, 35-inch tires, extensive underbody protection, and a long list of off-roading widgets, the Hummer EV is certainly shaping up to be a beast in the dirt.
