In a recent presentation released during the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), GMC’s parent company, General Motors, provided a little insight into the new Hummer’s off-roading features, with GMC Hummer EV lead development engineer, Aaron Pfau, taking the mic.

“In Terrain Mode, the GMC Hummer EV offers one-pedal driving for precision handling at low speeds while off-roading and rock crawling,” Pfau explains. “It combines the fine control of the immediate torque provided by the EV propulsion system and the friction brakes to deliver a level of modulation that is beyond anything we could deliver from a gas- or diesel-powered engine.”

For those off-roading enthusiasts that love to tackle challenging terrain, one-pedal driving looks to provide a unique experience behind the wheel, allowing the driver to finesse the throttle without removing their foot to brake, thus providing greater accuracy while navigating even the trickiest of trails. Combined with the Hummer EV’s prodigious low-end torque, as well as its advanced traction control system and four-wheel steering, the new battery-driven Hummer has the right stuff to conquer terra firma.

Further complementary off-roading features include special tire pressure sensor software that allows the driver to easily air down the tires by honking the horn once the desired air pressure has been achieved, per an interview with senior manager of complex feature integration at GM, Mike Colville.

Terrain Mode with One-Pedal driving isn’t the only new insight revealed at CES with regard to the GMC Hummer EV.
