Watch The GMC Hummer EV Pickup Do Donuts In The Snow: Video

GMC has posted a video to its Facebook page showing a Hummer EV on a vast, snowy ground doing what we would all do if we were behind the wheel of the all-electric pickup truck in those conditions – performing donuts, of course.
The video lasts just 15 seconds, but how satisfying those seconds are. The Hummer EV appears right from the start, with trees in the background, on a scene which has been visited very recently, to judge by the fresh tire marks. The driver – a professional, according to the caption, and we have no reason to doubt this – kicks it into a skid, hits the accelerator and puts the electric supertruck into a spin.
He (or very likely she) then spends the rest of the video controlling the slide and driving round in a series of circles of varying diameter. The final message reads, “Enjoy a powdered donut on us.” We did, GMC, we did.
The principal sound effect is the noise of wind howling past the mic. This may or may not have been added in post-production, but even if it was, it must be reasonably accurate. As much as it would be enjoyable to perform those donuts to the accompaniment of a roaring V8, which would have been possible in earlier Hummer vehicles, it doesn’t apply in the case of this Hummer EV pickup or any other Hummer that will be built in the future.
The Hummer EV Edition 1, set to become available in the fall of this year and priced to start at $112,595, will have three electric motors with a combined output of 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque. The EV3X will have the same drivetrain but with less power, though the full amount will be offered as an option. The more affordable EV2X and EV2, due to arrive in the spring of 2023 and the fall of 2024 respectively, will have two electric motors.
If you didn’t already know this, you get the point now: there won’t be an internal combustion engine anywhere in the range. That applies both to the pickup truck and to the mechanically similar Hummer EV SUV. Those who want a side order of V8 grumble with their donuts will have to make it themselves or bring a recording. But that won’t make performing those donuts any less enjoyable.
