Witness The GMC Hummer EV Rolling In CrabWalk Mode: Video

The all-new GMC Hummer EV is replete with advanced technology, from the powertrain, to the infotainment, to the off-roading goodies. Now, we’re getting a look at the Hummer’s new CrabWalk mode thanks to the following official animation.

Coming to us from the official GMC Instagram feed, the animation is brief, clocking in at just 15 seconds. However, it’s still very cool to watch the battery-powered off-roader put its tech to use.

The video opens on a gravel-lined trail in forest, where the GMC Hummer EV suddenly turns all four of its wheels at once, letting it slip by a log with ease. The scene then switches to a sandy beach, making CrabMode that much more appropriate. Up next, the Hummer EV is seen cruising down a stream sideways, finally coming to a stop in a dusty desert where CrabWalk mode is disengaged and all four wheels once again point straight.

With all four wheels pointed the same direction, the GMC Hummer EV becomes quite maneuverable, easily dancing around obstacles while exploring off-road – a fancy trick for a vehicle as large as the new Hummer.

CrabWalk is selectable via the central infotainment screen inside the GMC Hummer EV cabin space, and is accompanied with a graphic that shows how the wheels are oriented, plus there’s a steering-angle readout in the gauge cluster.

Further off-roader goodies include Extract Mode, which automatically raises the Hummer’s variable suspension height to its maximum level, as well as underbody cameras to spot potential hazards, and a drive mode that mimics locking differentials.

And of course, we have to at least mention the new GMC Hummer EV’s powertrain, which throws down an impressive 1,000 horsepower in the top Edition 1 trim level. Lower trims make 800 horsepower (Hummer EV3X), 625 horsepower (Hummer EV2X), and 625 horsepower (Hummer EV2).
