Consumers More Interested In Tesla Cybertruck Than Hummer EV: Study

The all-new Hummer EV combos a rough-and-ready pickup body style with the efficient power of an all-electric powertrain. However, it isn’t the only all-electric pickup in town. In fact, according to one study, consumers are more interested in the Tesla Cybertruck.

In a recent release, automotive research website CarGurus published the findings from its latest Electric Vehicle Sentiment Survey. The study collected responses from 1,097 car owners in the U.S. with regard to consumer sentiments towards electric vehicles. The study was conducted online in February of 2021, and included a balanced range of responses in terms of key demographics, including income level, region, and gender, per the U.S. census.

The CarGurus study found that only 16 percent of survey responders would consider the all-electric Hummer EV pickup, while 64 percent would not, and 20 percent were unsure. By comparison, 31 percent of survey responders would consider the Tesla Cybertruck, while 45 percent would not, and 24 percent were unsure.

The survey also asked about the Ford F-150 EV, with 28 percent of responders saying they would consider the Ford, 45 percent saying they would not, and 27 percent saying they were unsure.

California-based EV producer Tesla debuted the Cybertruck in 2019, showing the new all-electric pickup’s unique sci-fi styling and various features. The Tesla Cybertruck offers a four-door body and 6.5-foot rear bed. Pricing is expected to start at $39,900 for a single-motor, RWD model with 250 miles of range, while the top-trim model includes a three-motor powertrain with 500 miles of range, a 0-to-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, and a starting price of $69,900.

By comparison, the Hummer EV pickup starts at $79,995 for the Hummer EV2, which includes a two-motor powertrain and 250 miles of range, while the range-topping Hummer EV Edition 1 has a three-motor setup good for 350 miles, a 0-to-60 mph time of 3 seconds, and a starting price of $112,595.
