‘Extract Mode’ Trademark Hints At Potential Hummer EV Feature

Hummer's parent firm, General Motors, recently filed to register the trademark.

General Motors, the parent of Hummer, recently filed to trademark a rather interesting term that could hint at a feature in the upcoming GMC Hummer EV.

GM filed a trademark for “extract mode” on October 13th, 2020 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The most interesting part of the trademark, though, comes from the description of Goods and Services, which states: “Electronic suspension control systems for motor land vehicles.”

The upcoming GMC Hummer EV will feature Crab Mode driving function

The description makes us wonder whether the application will be used for the upcoming GMC Hummer EV line. We can see the Extract Mode name being used to label a Hummer EV feature that helps lesser off-roaders (looking at those Jeeps and Broncos) get out of the rough stuff by extracting them from trouble.

Perhaps Extract Mode could lower the height of the Hummer’s suspension or level it with the vehicle being rescued, placing weight directly above the wheels. To that end, adjusting the vehicle height so that the tow rope is level with the vehicle being extracted could help.

The all-new GMC Hummer EV will be unveiled on October 20th, 2020. Reservations will open at the time  of the reveal and deposits will start at $100.

Believed to be called the Hummer EV SUT (Sport Utility Truck), the Hummer EV pickup truck will be revealed simultaneously online and on television at 8 pm EST. Online viewers can watch the reveal here, while television viewers can catch the action during the first game of the 2020 MLB World Series.

Production for the Hummer EV SUT is expected to begin in 2021 at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant in Michigan, and those who reserved the Hummer EV will finalize orders around that time. Deliveries should start late fourth quarter of 2021, with the truck launching as a 2022 model.

The all-new Hummer EV SUT will ride on GM’s BT1 platform, a battery-electric version of the GM T1 platform currently underpinning General Motor’s family of full-size SUVs and pickup trucks. It will be available with up to three electric motors providing a maximum of over 1000 horsepower. Maximum range for the new Hummer EV SUT is expected to be approximately 400 miles.
