2022 Hummer EV Pickup Will Not Use CarbonPro Bed

The 2022 Hummer EV pickup will not offer GMC’s CarbonPro box. Instead, the Hummer truck’s bed will feature stamped steel construction along with standard spray-on bedliner, HummerNation.com has learned.

The CarbonPro box is offered on the GMC Sierra family of pickup trucks, including the light-duty / half ton Sierra 1500 as well as the Sierra HD (2500HD and 3500HD). The unique box is 62 pounds (28 kg) lighter than a bed with standard steel inner panels and floor. It features best-in-class dent, scratch and corrosion resistance, while also increasing the bed’s volume by 1 cubic foot.

CarbonPro uses a purpose-designed carbon fiber composite called Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). It is composed of 1-inch composite carbon-fiber thread and its CFRP sheets are molded to allow for quick and secure bonding with the carbon fiber.

Spray-on bedliner is also not necessary when using a CarbonPro box, as the material is rugged enough to resist regular wear and tear without the need for a spray-on bedliner. The CarbonPro’s dent resistance also removes the need for a wheelhouse liner. Models equipped with the CarbonPro bed also have an increased payload of at least 59 pounds over a steel bed due to the reduced mass afforded by the carbon fiber composite construction.

The decision to not offer CarbonPro on the Hummer EV is certainly peculiar given the new model’s premium positioning and high price.

The 2022 Hummer EV pickup will first launch with the Edition 1 model. With an MSRP of $112,595, this will be the most powerful and expensive Hummer EV configuration. The range-topping model will use a three-motor drivetrain capable of producing 1,000 horsepower, an estimated 11,500 pound-feet (15,591 Nm) of torque, enabling the Supertruck to sprint from a 0-60 mph in 3 seconds. The motors will draw power from the Ultium 24-module battery system, resulting in over 350 miles of driving range on a full charge with 800-volt DC fast charging capability.
