2022 Hummer EV Pickup Compared To Ford F-150 Raptor, Ram TRX

The new Hummer EV dominates, at least on paper.

The capabilities, performance and price of the all-new, 2022 Hummer EV pickup place it in good company: not only does the new Hummer reside at the upper echelon of today’s electric vehicles, but it’s also very much in the realm of high-performance, off-road pickups powered by internal combustion engines, namely the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX. Curious to see how the Hummer EV stacks up on paper to the established competition, we set out for a spec-sheet battle royale.

Many of the Hummer EV’s off-road features and capabilities are also reflected by the F-150 Raptor and the Ram 1500 TRX. For starters, the water fording depth is 32 inches for all three vehicles. Additionally, the front suspension travel is 13 inches and the breakover angle is around 22 degrees, so long as the Hummer EV is in its standard mode. All three vehicles have 11.5 inches of ground clearance (when the Hummer is in Terrain Mode), and the maximum vehicle width without the mirrors is also in the neighborhood of 87 inches due to the meaty off-road tires. But that’s where the similarities end and the Hummer EV demonstrates its superiority.

In Extract Mode, the Hummer EV’s ground clearance increases to 15.9 inches, and the approach angle follows at an impressive 49.7 degrees. The departure angle also increases to 38.4 degrees in Extract Mode, which is considerably higher than the F-150 Raptor’s 23 degrees and the Ram’s 23.5 degrees.

Then there are the Hummer EV pickup’s massive output figures: 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. That’s, of course, from the the three-motor setup included in the range-topping 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1 model. Both figures dwarf the respectable output figures from the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor (450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque) as well as the Ram TRX (702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque). The higher output and vertical torque curve also enable the Hummer EV from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3 seconds, while it takes the F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX 5.2 and 4.5 second, respectively, to do the same.

Of course, the impressive levels of performance – along with the supertruck status – come at a price, with the Hummer EV Edition 1 priced to start at $112,595, 37 percent higher than the $71,690 base price of the Ram and 49 percent higher than the $58,135 base price of the 2020 F-150 Raptor.
