2022 Hummer EV Pickup Will Be Sold At Only Half Of GMC Dealerships

Apparently, not all dealers were on board with the pricey investments necessary to sell and service the vehicle.

The 2022 Hummer EV pickup will be even more exclusive than previously thought, as not all GMC dealerships have agreed to sell the Supertruck.

GMC brand boss Duncan Aldred told Reuters that only half of all GMC dealers in the U.S. have signed up to sell the Hummer EV. While Aldred did not mention a specific reason for the arguably low take-rate, it likely has to do with the required investments that dealers have to make before being able to sell the vehicle.

In September, GM Authority reported that dealers that would like to sell future GM electric vehicles such as the Hummer EV have to sign an agreement that requires them to spend between $120,000 and $200,000 in upgrades for sales and service departments.

Some dealers in more rural areas of the country believe they would not see a return on their investments as their customers showed little interest in EVs. Meanwhile, president of GM North America, Steve Carlisle, said that these investments were a necessary step for GM’s “vision of an electrified future.” He believed that as customers become familiar with new EVs, the demand for them will also increase.

The 2022 Hummer EV is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2021 with the limited-production Edition 1 trim – the most powerful and expensive Hummer EV configuration. Priced at $112,595, reservations for the range-topping configuration, priced to start at $112,595, filled up shortly after the vehicle’s reveal in October.

As of this writing, lower-end trims can still be reserved. GM said that those who didn’t get in on the Hummer EV Edition 1 reservations can still be added to the waiting list by reserving another available trim level and clicking the waitlist box on the reservation form. If a current Edition 1 reservation holder backs out, those on the waitlist will be notified on a first-come-first-served basis.
