Hummer EV Turning Circle Is Very Tight With Four-Wheel-Steering

Tighter than the Tesla Model 3, as well.

Typically, large, powerful off-road vehicles don’t always boast the tightest of turning circles, sacrificing nimble low-speed maneuverability in favor of raw capability. Not so with the latest Hummer EV turning circle, which is in fact tighter than most General Motors vehicles.

Looking over the specs, there are actually two figures to consider with regard to the new Hummer EV turning circle – with and without the off-roader’s new four-wheel steering system.

Let’s start without four-wheel steering, which means only the front wheels turn with the steering wheel. In this situation, the Hummer EV turns in 44.3 feet, or 13.5 meters. Note that this is the turning circle, or diameter, as opposed to the turning radius, which would be half of the diameter.

While decent with two-wheel steering, the Hummer EV turning circle tightens significantly when engaging the four-wheel steering system. With all four wheels turning with the steering wheel, the Hummer EV boasts a 37.1-foot turning circle, or 11.3 meters.

That’s impressive for a vehicle the size of the new Hummer EV, and should pay dividends when negotiating narrow, tricky, technical trails. In fact, the 37.1-foot turning circle is tighter than most General Motors vehicles outright, and according to Hummer Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser, it’s even tighter than the turning circle of the Tesla Model 3, the California-based EV producer’s D-segment sedan.

To illustrate the point further, here are two more specs – even with its 135.6-inch wheelbase, the Hummer EV turns tighter than the Model 3, which has a wheelbase that measures in at 113.2 inches, more than 22 inches shorter than the Hummer. Color us impressed.
