Meet The 2022 Hummer EV Development Team: Video

And listen to some insights behind the vehicle's development.

The new Hummer EV was developed to push the boundaries of off-road vehicles. The supertruck was unveiled only 18 months after it entered development, a very fast process that GM says will become the norm for its future battery-powered vehicles. To honor the Hummer EV Development Team, GMC compiled a 16-minute video with some of the key members behind the vehicle’s planning and development, as well as some insight into how the supertruck came to be.

The leaders featured in the video include GMC chief Duncan Aldred, Hummer EV chief engineer Al Oppenheiser and executive chief engineer Josh Tavel, GMC lead designer Rich Scheer color & trim designer Tara Ellis, and user experience director Scott Martin.

One of the key takeaways from the video is that the team set out to make the Hummer EV a one-of-a-kind vehicle that’s rugged, approachable, instantly recognizable, and technologically impressive, all with zero emissions and no compromises.

On the performance side, GM took valuable input from experienced off-road racer and engineer Mike Colville, whose racing experience at King of the Hammers allowed the Hummer EV team to develop the front e-locker, the rear virtual locker, four-wheel-steering, and CrabWalk mode that make the supertruck a capable off-roader.

Fellow engineers Aaron Pfau and Todd Hubbard gave the Hummer EV’s off-road capabilities even more capability via impressive ground clearance, departure and approach angles, and the 6-inch suspension lift mode.

The Hummer EV Edition 1, which is featured in the video, is scheduled to enter production in late 2021. The Edition 1 is the most powerful and expensive trim level of the 2022 Hummer EV. See all 2022 Hummer EV trims and models here. Edition 1 features three motors producing 1,000 horsepower and an estimated 11,500 pound-feet (15,591 Nm) of torque.

Listen to all of the insight and details that the Hummer EV development team has to say about their creation, and watch some simulations of the new supertruck tackling the toughest of terrains in the full documentary below.
